Malian kora master MANSA SISSOKO and Canadian banjo player JAYME STONE used music as their common language when they first met when Jayme journeyed to Mali to search for the banjo's surviving ancestors. They instantly forged an unusual and challenging friendship which opened both their eyes. Musically they blur the lines of time and location to create a riveting performance which breaks down boundaries but creates a constant level of infectious achievement aided and abetted by Paul Mathew and Nick Fraser.
On their new collaborative album, Jayme and Mansa build a boundary-crossing musical bridge from Africa to Appalachia. Special guests include pioneering fiddler Casey Driessen, ngoni wizard, Bassekou Kouyate and the haunting voice of Guinean griot, Katenen Dioubate.
